Just when i thought i was out...

You know, all i wanted was a vacation... a simple, relaxing, vacation where i get kick back and enjoy myself, get to have some closure, and not worry about the state of the world. Just 2 days of that. I didn't think it would be too much to ask from the world you know? Well, apparently it is! By now you all must know that there was 2 terrorist attacks in Cairo Yesterday, one near the museum and an attack on a tourist bus. In case you didn't, here is the skinny: Two veiled women shot at a tour bus, and a man — the brother of one shooter and the fiance of the second — blew himself up as he leapt off a bridge during a police chase Saturday. All three attackers died and nine people, four of them foreigners, were wounded in an apparent revival of violence against Egypt's vital tourism industry. And of course, the Ministery of interior says that everything is fine, all is well, no need to panic, this is just a small cell acting, nothing to worry about, just go along you war, get on with your lives people, nothing to see here. The problem with that is, those are the same people who claimed that the Alazhar bomber acted alone. That it was just a case of this one 17 year old kid, who got brainwashed over the evil internet- which is a great danger to our society now apparently- and that no one else was involved and no larger cell was at work. And then they were like, well, no, he might be part of a cell, wait, nope, he is part of a cell, and we are gonna arrest everyone who even came close to him in the past 3 months. Amongst the people arrested- and i kid you not- are his 7 years old sister, his mother, and about 30 of his relatives. Anyway... Cairo has gone nuts with security measures and stuff, and everyone is on alert and probably just arresting anyone who knew those 3 dead or even lent them money. It's kinda dubious whether those arrests will lead to anything, but i guess they have to calm the public down and give them the illusion that they are actually doing something, since they apparently can't do their jobs of stopping such attacks in the first place. Maybe if they didn't worry so much of democracy activists and cracked down a little more on thoe who actually blow shit up we wouldn't be in this mess. Just saying. But yeah, if anything good will come out of this, it's that the secretary of interior, Generalismo Habib El Adly, might be given the boot soon. Those are 4 seperate attacks in less then a year and it took far less then that to get predecessors of his fired. Some people would say that by firing him you are rewarding the terrorists, but i figure that it will probably be a good move since we know that he would never resign and show any sense of accountability or anything. So there might be an upside to all of this mayhem and death after all. Right!

The thing is how can anyone stop these attacks. Can you pull out the American troops? Oh, wait there are none. End tourism? That would certainly be in keeping with their plan of creating poverty, misery, and resentment. Perfect breeding ground to increase their numbers. Maybe kick out all non-Muslims. But 70,000 people have died in Darfur so any non Arab Muslims will have to go too. And of course the clerics will have to have absolute control over all aspects of your life. Only then will the violence end.

Or maybe prosecute clerics who use religion to incite terror.

"Please, please bring back the emergency law"
Egypt's been in an emergency state since Mubarak became president over 20 years ago.

"prosecute clerics who use religion to incite terror"
On paper, that sounds like a good idea. But in practicality, doing so only gives the terrorists more ammunition.

Lehman,

This actually looks like FBI and CIA after 9/11 to me ;)

"Round up the usual suspects," indeed! I hope they release that guy's little sister, etc, soon--too bad they can't actually go about tracing his cell connections rather than waisting their time hauling preadolescent girls off to prison.
