That whole "wiping them out" thing

Remember how I mentioned that the world wasn't amused at Iran's Prez call to wipe Israel out? Well, to curb down the damage, former Preisdent Rafsanji went and said that Iran respects Jews and Judasim. In a clear move aimed at calming worldwide tensions and condemnations over anti-Israeli remarks by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, former president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said on Friday that Iran respected both Jews and Judaism. “We have no problems with Jews and highly respect Judaism as a holy religion,” Rafsanjani said at the Friday prayer ceremony which followed anti-Israeli demonstrations throughout Iran. And then A.J. went and repeated what he said yet again, in an Anti-Israel rally. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stood fast behind his assertion that Israel should be wiped off the map and repeated the call during the nationwide protests Friday, the Muslim day of prayer. [...] Marching alongside the protesters, the 47-year-old former mayor of Tehran and one-time Republican Guard commander renewed his criticism of the West. "They become upset when they hear any voice of truth-seeking. They think they are the absolute rulers of the world," he said during the al-Quds — or Jerusalem — Day protest, which was among the largest since they were first held in 1979 after Shiite Muslim clerics took power in Iran. His fellow marchers carried placards reading "Death to Israel, death to America." It is not uncommon for an Iranian president to join marches in the capital. Ahmadinejad was accompanied by five bodyguards, but otherwise security was not out of the ordinary for such an event. But.... The Iranian Embassy statement in Moscow said Ahmadinejad "did not have any intention to speak in sharp terms and engage in a conflict." So, what was that whole wiping Israel out thing? Europeans want to know exactly what he meant by saying that. Well, ScrappleFace may have the explanation right here: (2005-10-27) — The United Nations Security Council today took up discussion on what Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad might have meant when he called for Israel to be “wiped out from the map”. Secretary General Kofi Annan said Iran, as a member of the U.N., must be given the benefit of the doubt that the phrase was intended to encourage peaceful diplomacy. “‘Wiped’ is a word that can denote cleanliness,” said Mr. Annan. “The Iranian president may have simply meant that the map should be cleaned so Israel’s legitmate borders are easier to see.” Mr. Ahmadinejad’s remarks came during the month-long ‘World without Zionism’ celebration, and echoed the Ayatollah Khomeini’s previous comments about map hygiene. Yeah. That must be it.

Oh, he doesn't have a problem with us Pigs and Apes? I am so touched! :)

This is the classic "no problems with jews, just problems with zionist" (Zionist: Anyone who believes that Israel has the right to exists).

Find me 10 jews (except for the hard-core fundimentalist nutbars) who believe Israel should be wiped from the earth. As a jew, I can assure you, it would be tough!

I think we should give Kofi a break, he seems like a good honest man who just happens to have the worst job in the world! True he should have opened his eyes regarding oil-for-food, but EVERYBODY knew what was going on and said nothing... (canada included)

Thewiz,
scrappleface is a satire site by Scott ott. That Kofi Annan thing was supposed to be a joke. I hope so anyway, otherwise Israel may feel inclined to get interested in Map hygiene. You know?

I think the problem, in his eyes, isn't that he said it, but that it wasn't supposed to heard by the entire world and it was.

Sandmonkey, i have got to be the dumbest jew in canada!

Iran's comments are the BEST event for the Jewish people since "Space Balls The Movie". Finally we can point out that we are not paranoid, Iran really wants to kill us.

If anything, this really helped Israel's political case. I am glad that Israel did not go nuts and had a restrained response... it shows that Israel seeks political solutions.

Personally, I think Ahmadinejad declared Jihad on rational thought!

First of all, Sandmonkey!! Harumph!!!!

Secondly, Jordan's right. If this Mad-Jammed-Up-His-Ass, or whatever his name is, was anything but stupid, we may have something to worry about. He's just laid himself bare in front of the whole world, and believe me, not only is his scawny form not eye candy, he's positively an idiot. The West has just been handed his symbollic head on a platter.

I think I have worked out this Iranian thing. They have no problem with Jews or Judaism and they actually respect the Jewish people. Iran just thinks that they all should be wiped from the face of the earth. OK?

They're not evil, they are just misunderstood. We will find out just how misunderstood when the mushroom cloud starts to settle across the Middle East. Iran's comments then, "Whoops, my fault. Thought that was the switch for the cleansing vacuum cleaner."

Iran's been saying that crap for years - Annan is a dumbass who should have been kicked to the curb a long time ago. Maybe we should ask ourselves, why the heck is he still at the UN? Who's the real dumbasses, please stand up!

In the same speech were he says he will remove Israel he also atacks all of the anglo spere even poor little canada. Man is off the wall. Canukistan (canada) is already paying it dhimmi tax.

Canukistan?

Thats cute, never heard of that one before!

I wouldn't worry about Canada turning into a fundimentalist state. Remember the Simpsons episode when the Canadian security guard yelled "Stop them, they are expressing their faith, eh!".

Its true, we are very secular. Ontario said no no to Sharia law (duh) And combine that with our killer pot and Canadian humour, fundimentalism doesn't stand a chance in the great white north!
