It was a terrorist attack after all!

Holy Crap, I hate it when I am right: Two Canadian women peacekeepers were wounded in a bomb blast in Egypt's Sinai peninsula that officials described as a terrorist attack. "Terrorists planted two gas canisters on the road and linked them to an electrical wire. They hid in nearby apricot groves and blew them up," North Sinai governor Ahmed Abdel Hamid told reporters. The incident occurred on road about 25 kilometres (15 miles) west of the Gaza Strip, where Israeli on Monday began its historic operation to pull out from the occupied territory. Hamid said only one of the bombs exploded and that the other was being examined by ordnance experts, adding that two female Canadian peacekeepers from the Multinational Force and Observers were lightly wounded. He added that several Bedouin in the area had been arrested. A senior Egyptian security official confirmed the circumstances of the attack. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. So, now we know 2 things: 1) the 2 canadians that were wounded were women; and 2) That whole "It was a landmine" thing was just the government trying to cover its own ass by lying, again. This is disconcerning, cause I was just making the Iraq analogy in my previou spost and now we have ourselves a "roadside bomb" like the ones they use to attack US convoys over there. Our first IED attack ladies and gentlemen, and many are sure to follow. Oh Joy!

Those are UN forces, so are they declaring war on the UN?

I'm glad the Canadian women are safe, but it does look like there is real trouble brewing.

I think that happened a long time ago, Tina. The victims of the first suicide bombing ever had blue helmets on. That was the beginning of the worldwide reluctance of nations to put their troops under UN command. I've been a UN peacekeeper twice, and I would never willingly serve in that role again. I have a lot more to say about that, but I won't, because the UN still has noble goals and I still believe in those goals, even if I don't think the UN is competent to carry them out.

Sandmonkey,
If 1-3% of your population goes crazy and turns violent, it is going to be a bad day no matter what country you are in. Let's all hope this does not happen in Egypt.

This is a warning (re the Egyptian agreement to monitor Gaza) given by Iran through Hamas, as was Sharm. "Don't do as we like and we can get you anywhere."

Not surprised that terrorist would attack the UN as they have done in Iraq, Lebanon and elsewhere. Unfortunately this probably will be put down by the UN as an attack caused by US and friends actions in the Middle East. Totally ignoring that they are attacking all civilized society.

What is this about the Bedouin though? I thought they were staying clear of Islamofascist cause?
