Danish Embassy in Syria torched over the Cartoons

OH. MY. GOD. turn it off cfire burn Rage against caricatures of Islam's revered prophet poured out across the Muslim world Saturday, with aggrieved believers calling for executions, storming European buildings and setting European flags afire. Thousands of outraged Syrian demonstrators stormed the Danish and Norwegian embassies in Damascus, setting fire to both buildings.

Police fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse demonstrators at the Norwegian Embassy after the Danish building was burned.

so true

But the protesters broke through police barriers and set fire to the second building, shouting "Allahu Akbar!" which is Arabic for "God is great!" No comment. I am too disgusted by all of this foolishness and retardedness to comment, or at least say anything different than what I have already said here. Actually, why don't I just cut and paste it for you all one more time? Here is my response to all this: Great. Fantastic. Hope all y'all "defenders of the faith" are FUCKIN happy. And don't tell me that you didn't see that one coming. This is what always freakin happens. This is what happens when you create outrage, and use big words that you barely understand like "defending our prophets honor". And now you have proven to the whole world what the people who attack you have always said : that you are just a little crazy, that you resort to violence the moment anything or anyone offends you, that you can not handle criticisms without issuing death threats. Thanks to your own actions and voiced sentiments we appear to be uncivilized, short-fused, intolerant and bloodthirsty. And the sad thing is, you can't claim it's the media distoring our image anymore. All that they would need to disprove that excuse now is to issue a cartoon, and the next thing you know you will go unhinged again. You know why? Beause YOU ARE FUCKIN RETARDED! Fuckin Morons! Yeah, nothing more or new to say here.

Osama must be delighted.

Embassys of Denmark, Chile and Sweden in the same building, so I suppose they are all affected.

I am also extremely angry, I have to say. How did it come to this? It is disturbing..

Thanks for your great blog, sandmonkey! And for showing the world that there are reasonable people in your area! I am very concerned about this cartoon-war, but I hope that in the end it will make more people recognize that terrorism and extremism are the real enemies of islam.

For the first time in my life I am aware that someone would actually kill me if they had the chance no matter how nice a person I have been. They just want blood. Kind of reminds me of Dawn of the Dead when I see those mobs.

..berhaps a valuable lesson. Time will tell

I am from Denmark. In the news they say, that there was a rumour in Syria that some people would gather to burn the Holy Book of Islam in Copenhagen. An imam from Denmark should have said that on Al Jazeera. That is why the crowd got so mad.
There has not been any burnings of the Holy Book. And it is strictly forbidden.
By the way; in Denmark it is legal to burn the danish flag as a protest, but it is strictly forbidden to burn a flag from another country. And that has not happened either.

There has been a demonstration arranged by the far right (Danish Front) this afternoon. All 30 showed up. There were more police than demonstrators to protect them from a demonstration against Danish Front. The nazis were disappointed, but everybody else think they a idiots. They hoped that it had changed after the events seen on the media, but it has not. They are now considered even bigger idiots because it is quite obvious that they just wanted to throw gasoline on a fire.

No lives has been lost (yet). I hope that this nightmare will end soon.

What makes the Danish Front so silly is that the Nazis and the Muslim Brotherhood (and its offshoots) have close historical links, dating back to the 1930s. So the Danish Front should be marching alongside the Islamists, where they belong. In the Party for The Violent and Immature.

The burning of an embassy is technically an act of war, that is how serious this is - and don't tell me that in Syria a demonstration can assemble and set fire to a foreign embassy without some kind of acceptance from authorities.

Doesn't anyone work in the Muslim world - unemployment should be addressed because these nutjobs have too much time on their hands if they give a crap about 12 cartoons, which in reality were quite mundane to say the least.

Maybe it is time Denmark starts boycotting Muslims, and see how that goes over....

As someone else already said, some silly rumours about Quran burnings seems to have been spread, and those rumours are *FALSE*

No Quranburnings have taken place in Denmark.

Next issue is that it was clear that the police just stood and did NOTHING to prevent it. It was shown in TV btw.
Syria is not a place where police are defenceless when it comes to some troublemakes, and if same demonstrators were against the regime, they would have been teared apart in a second.
So, the regime condoned the act.

When that is said, I still also wanna say that regardless how FUCKING RETARDED this is, no lives were lost, so who the hell am I to whine about a burned house, when 1.000 people died in a ferry disaster.
This silly embassyburning are still insignificant compared to the ferry disaster the way I see it.

Oh, and don't forget to buy danish :-)

Absolutely, Kjartan... I just posted on highlander's blog about that. The word "technically" can be removed - it's an act of war, period.

Enjoy the new governments that get elected in Europe, Islam.

This is not going to work out well for Iran either... and they know it, I suspect. Haven't heard much out of Iran on this issue, which is out of character for the IRI.

Nobody takes a dump in Syria without the secret police knowing about it.

The regime has definetly been infected by the bash-scandinavia fever, which is also known to cause the brain to slowly degrade into a spongy mass of tissue. Zombie like mob behaviour is often seen and symptoms of course also include the widespread retardedness, which is the first sure sign, we have seen lately with the victions.

SAM, this already happened a couple of years ago with the US consulate in Damascus. Don't kid yourself: embassies burn in Damascus only when Syria's government agree. In this case they are sending a message to the West: it's either us or the wackos.

Notice that the security forces prevented the demonstrators from burning the French embassy. This is because Damascus cannot afford offending the French in the currenrt circumstances.

Yes, the embassy burndown could technically be interpreted as an act of war. Article 5 of the NATO partnership requires an attack with arms so thats no good, but article 24 was actually added to protect members of NATO from terrorist attacks and could be used in a situation like this.

All western countries would then of course be obliged to stand together to warn the offender that we are going to bomb the hell out his ass if he doesn't back down, which would then of course mean that the offender picks up his red phone, calls China and asks for help. China says "Dont fuck with our little brothers or we will nuke your sorry asses into capitalist heaven".. And there you go from there. There will be a bit of nuking and some more nuking.. You know, the standard armageddom scenario all religious nuts have been waiting for... Hmm..

Anon 12:55, embassies are sovereign territory of the country operating them. An attack on an embassy is an attack on the country that maintains the embassy. Not "technically" - literally.

By the way,

"Article 5 of the NATO partnership requires an attack with arms so thats no good"

Who decided that firebombs were not weapons?

It is incredible what is happening and I belive this might be the start of World War III.

I have never been so angry in my life and I am from Sweden. I am behind Denmark all the way, they should not have to stand alone in this fight for freedom and democracy. This is a very dangerous situation and normal and peaceful Muslims will probably suffer the most, because angry Europeans will not be able to distinguish between peaceful Muslims and Islamic Extremist, soon Europeans will consider all Muslims as mad terrorists and kill all of them.

Denmark is a member of NATO and soon Americans will look like the most peaceful people on earth. There is about 20 miljon Muslims living in Europe.

I am very afraid this situation will lead to a full scale war between Europe and the whole muslim world. The French president has sad that he will use the atomic bomb on any country supporting a terror attack on France and the people of Europe will demand that they use it and the Palestinian-Israel conflict will look like a peacefull picknick.

Then we have the Iranian nuclear conflict escelating and Venzuela, Cuba, etc conflict with USA and North Korea nuclear situation, the world suddenly look very, very, very dangerous.

Well, let us hope I am wrong and that peace will prevail, but after the next terror attack by Islamic fanatics and all bets are off...

I call on article 5! Lets send in a couple of panzer divisions for a little blitz operation to show we mean serious business.

Nah, this won't be WWIII anytime soon. It may over time develop into something reminiscent of the cold war, though; an ideological, moral and political struggle, that now and then flares up into a 'hot' war..

- which would obviously be sad in itself.

P.S. Craig: Yeah, you're right, act of war period. The 'technically' was mostly there to show that I am not advocating that we should treat it as such (i.e. calling in NATO etc.), which would clearly be a stupid overreaction.

BBC World News showed the protesters burning the embassies in Damascus, and I have to agree it looked like the police just let it happen.I am American, not Danish, but seeing the craziness and destruction shocked and angered me.Believe me,I'm trying desperately not to stereotype arabs and muslims, but stuff like this makes it rather difficult.

Btw,the Iranian president said Iran will boycott any country that prints the cartoons (New Zealand is the latest),but I don't think he's overly enthusiastic about doing so.No doubt he's more concerned about developing nuclear bombs at the moment, but maybe he also wants to appear more "civilized" than the other muslim countries.

Great! Another cold war.. I vividly remember having Poland and DDR right accross the border 200km from my home when I was growing up in Denmark. We were also fortunate enough to be able to receive DDR television - what a joke. They had the same totalitarian its-in-the-book-so-it-IS-true mentality and no rational argument could contradict the wonders of socialism.

At 2/05/2006 03:07:00 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

come on people. if anyone is to be blamed, it has to be the instigator of this nonsense, yes, the stupid editor, or even the cartoonist. how long will it take for the outraged, overreacting muslim world to think of a smart response: how bout publishing cartoons mocking the holocaust? or does that not fall under the umbrella of 'freedom of speech/expression/opinion'? ooh the west would just love that, wouldn't they?

At 2/05/2006 03:34:00 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

This is not about the cartoons anymore. How can you possibly defend burning down a countrys embassy or deaththreats just over a couple of cartoons.

And what about these instigative double tounged imams from Denmark who travelled all the way to the middleeast with fake Mohammed pictures to show everybody how miserable life is and how horrible muslims are being treated in the country the had chosen as their home. I would call that treason! The debate was an internal Danish debate among civilized people (i.e. there was perhaps shouting, but no deaththreats, flagburning/trampling or burndowns) intended for a Danish audience until someone decided it was time to include everyone in the muslim world in a discussion they were clearly not ready for.

And don't tell me that this is the first time Mohammed has been carricatured. It should be clear to everyone that they were just looking for a testcloth or a scapegoat in a pity little country that could be pushed to give up some of their fundamental democratic rights in favor of a bit of sharia law. What a victory that would have been for Abu Laban - the lying imam. Why didn't they do any looting or burning, when they saw South Park's Super best friend, I ask? .. That episode was insulting to both Jesus, Mohammed and Moses, but there was not a peep!!

We will have NO taboos, that don't belong there, imposed on Europe. Religious motivated laws have done enough harm as it is.

At 2/05/2006 03:41:00 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The "instigator of this nonsense" is not the cartoonists but the carttonists but the Islamic Society of Denmark. The whole thing is a very successful media campaign, with the aim of scaring non-Muslim people into obeying one part of Sharia Law. Once images of the Prophet are banned all over Europe, they will proceed to press for the adoption of some other part of Sharia.

At 2/05/2006 03:51:00 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

And as we have seen lately, the Arab press has actually printed carricatures mocking the holocaust, so that's also not a good reason for what is happening.

Now that I think about it, there is actually no good reason for what is happening. You cannot possibly make a rational argument that will make it stop, because everything you say will be contradicted by the quaran. What is written is written - everybody can see that! The soviets also had a reference book or manual for oppression, which could not be contradicted and everybody who tried to do so, was sent to Sibira.

We weren't too happy about that either here in Europe as some might recall.

2:29 anonymous, what is that you're writing about Austria calling NATO generals for an emergency meeting? Austria is not even a NATO member itself. Probably it would be better that neither side here published unfounded rumours.

Jerusalem Post in Israel and Philadelphia Inquierer in USA has also published the Danish cartoons.

It looks like the publishing is escalating among the free press and so are the violent riots in the muslim world.

Are people forgetting here who is oppressing whom? read some history i suggest mates. Respect people, they will respect you. Simple rule of life. If Arabs dont deserve respect, then stay the hell out of their business. Remember how Europe was living few hundred years ago, and see how the Arabs lived in the same time. Violence was never a solution, niether was disrespecting other cultures and religions. Remember Afghanistan and Budda being blowed up??? USA used that in its media war , or did it not? or every one here are teens only?.
