I don't know how I missed this..

...But go and check out Ritzy's post on chants, offers of organ donations, pledges of support written in the blood of local supporters and other props used in the Egyptian Presidential elections theatre of politics. The whole thing is rather..lovely!

I think commentor raf* would answer that I've published too much. So I'm logging off now, after pointing you guys to this story that I was baffled by but haven't heard more about. Feedback?

#The police station and municipal offices were destroyed
#last year and US marines make only fleeting visits every few months.

Falluja was just the same til last November. I'm sure the marines could do another Falluja type op in Haditha, but without local security forces to move in afterwards, the crazy people would just re-appear. I expect there'll be some housecleaning there whenever they feel they have an Iraqi force ready to move in and hold the town afterwards. But the terrorists will just go someplace else. There either has to be a LOT of reliable Iraqi police and military available, or a lot more coalition forces available, to fix the horrible security problem nationwide. This is a pretty good illustration of the whole problem in Iraq right now :\
