We already have lots of large land mammals - bears, wild boar, and bambis are pretty ubiquitous. I live in silicon valley and we even have mountain lions. My parents saw one while hiking in the foothills just a month ago and one was found in a tree in downtown palo alto. Also, a cyclist in southern california was mauled to death by a mountain lion a few months ago.

Dumb idea my arse. Ma get the deep freeze ready, cuz we gonna eat good this year!

This means more stuff for us to hunt, no matter what those Cornell profs think.

I better go put a payment down on a 105MM howitzer, cuz my little ole 20 guage shotgun won't bring down one of these beasts.

When Billy Bob shows me his 8 pt Buck,I can now trump him with a royal flush of a wolly mammoth, a saber tooth tiger, a cheeta , a 6 pt buck and T Rex.

Heck, every time I see the Flintstones car tip from those giant ribs, a tear forms in my eye and I call out to God "where are my giant ribs? where?". Looks like my prayers have been answered. (unless, of course, those darn jews with their fancy paper cups ruin it ;) )

I suppose the next question is:
"How can we get leviathans put in our lakes for the extreme Noodle (link: http://espn.go.com/outdoors/general/columns/sutton_keith/1336494.html )
contests.

Aww...only in America.

It is roaming American plains until they decide they like human garbage better than antelope or follow the deer that are going further to find fod... then it is roaming American cities, like bear and coyote already do.

We have no idea how these animals will interact with modern American cities and towns and other settlements... what is the purpose in finding out?

It is a dumb idea because it will cost money that could be a lot better spent.

If it were free, great... but they also better provide everyone in a 200 mile radius with a free shotgun, gun training, and the right to shoot any of these animals that wanders onto their property.

Even then... what about the first time you spot a wild animal stalking your 2 year-old at the playground?

It's insane. How many mauled and eaten hikers, children, and livestock will it take for them to realize how stupid this is?

I saw a news special last week about attempts to re-introduce north american timber wolves on the American planes. The wolves are doing good! The cattle... not doing so good!

As much problem as coyotes are in southern california, I shudder to think what's going to happen if those wolf packs ever make it into urban areas. I like the idea of re-introducing the wolves, though, and I wish they'd do more with Bison(Buffalo) on the plains, since that is there natural habitat. African animals though? Raf*, you sound like something of a naturalist at heart... does that idea seem sound to you?
