We ended the cartoon war

It is reported that the world's Mulims and Arab leaders are urging calm over the fervor caused by the infamous cartoons. Now they are? I wonder why that is? Ohh, wait, I know. It's because we broke out the story that the cartoons were published in Egypt, during Ramadan and no one protested at all, and that this uproar was instigated by them for political reasons. Didn't I tell you that this thing is over? Now, excuse me, I got a game to watch. GO EGYPT!

Thanks for your blog, your perspective and the comments people have added have helped me understand a whole bunch of stuff on this issue.

I guess I can cheer for Egypt tonight in thanks.

Either the media in Germany are really slow to pick up your finding (I even e-mailed it to the biggest German online news site, www.spiegel.de) or they're reluctant to report it for some reason. I haven't seen it on any major news source yet.

Good work on this blog. Nice to be reaffirmed in the belief that it is possible to be both a muslim and keep a somewhat rational perspective.

Though I'm sad to see that the gap between The West(TM) and the socalled "muslim world" has grown wider, I hope that this may be just the thing needed. Maybe now it is clear to all, through the violence and bloodshed caused by a few cartoons, that we need to do something about this issue. Find some way of understanding each other. Here is to people opening their eyes, and the moderates seizing the day!

(And hey, don't worry - though my country has it's fair share of idiots not all of us are closeminded enough to let a few rioters spoil the belief that suffering people all over the world - muslim or not - should be supported.)

Hey SM, I've been trying to respond to the guy who drew the matrix of christians building buildings and moslems destroying them but there's something wrong with the link that it's impossible to post a comment, could it be fixed?

I agree with your point of view

I guess that they will have to boycott Brazil too. The cartoons were published here. If I were isamic, I wouldn't care for a cartoon.

People said that its a momentaneous behavior. Even Christianism was radical that way. In old chirstianism, If you smile, you go to the fire. Stupid isn't it?

We just hope that this ends soon.

Big question now - is it possible some common sense can be forced into the heads of democratic illiterates?
Keep it simple should make things easier to understand... I think the following ‘picture’ illustrates the present dilemma!

According to Danish law and from Danish point of view all British drivers’ licences should be cancelled, because all Brits are consistent driving in the wrong side of the road. All things connected to British traffic applies to that way of behaviour. How cars are built, road signs, traffic lights etc. The opposite of how the rest of Europe does it. Well it fits the British and is OK with us as long as they keep it there.
A Brit moves to Denmark. He brings his car, which has steering wheel and driver located in the wrong side of the vehicle according to traffic rules in Denmark, however, there is no local rule against that. He can go everywhere in his car, by just following traffic and joining the local rules of which side of the road to drive. He can enjoy fully both the beautiful landscape and the company of friendly Danish people. Maybe later he’ll by a car better suited for Danish traffic.
Another Brit moves to Denmark. He also brings his car. He’s a very dedicated Brit and declares: “Hey - I’m British. Don’t you tell me which side of the road I drive!

Conclusion: If you don’t want to adapt to essential local rules, you better stay home, or you face trouble! You may even get the feeling everybody being against you.

Headshaking Dane

Sandmonkey. I give you credit for assisting in ending this affair, but also in influencing the negative view of muslims by non muslims.

The main thing though is that it is over.

What was the context of how the cartoons were published in Eqypt. what was the nature of the associated text.

I wanted to congratulate your country winning the African cup in the post two articles above, but for some reason the comment section is not working in that one.

In the Netherlands overhere I was surprised hearing about 5 cars using their horns and shouting. I saw flags with red and white on it. I thought "oh oh", but then I also saw some black in the flag as well. Confusing the flag with Syria, I was afraid something happened there and that these people were showing their joy about it. But later I ended up in a shop owned by an Egyptian who explained me that those people were Egyptian cheering for winning the African cup :)

Sandmonkey
I would have liked to share your optimism regarding the end of this unspeakably ugly & stupid episode but it isn't over yet, far from it.
The ignorance of many muslims will not stop at this, there are more idiotic & laughable episodes on the way, the more time moves forward, the more muslims are behind & that is by their own free will.
