The Muslim Brotherhood have 75 seats
75 seats people. They won 28 more in the run-off, making their second stage total 41 and their complete total so far 75 seats respectively. That's 10 seats above the 65 mark needed for them to have a presidential candidate. Hehehehehehe. Why am I laughing? What's so funny about that? I am not sure. Humor....sheer terror....it's a fine line really. On the other hand, this recent development may cause Mubarak to disband the new parliament citing irregularities in voting. This possibility is looking more and more as an option he may have to take in order to ward off competition against his own son in the next election. Otherwise Mubarak will have to wait at least 5 of his 6 year term until the next parliamentary elections and make sure they don't get 65 candidates and then step down and leave it to Gammal. Either way things are going to suck for democrcay and Egypt, and the possibility of violence chaos and anarchy will keep rising with every passing day. Fantastic news, no? Update: The Brotherhood are running 49 more candidates in the third stage. I say they will get at least 100 seats overall. Anyone willing to take this bet?

i understand that the Muslim brotherhood are winning these seats by choice of the people. put relegion aside, and think of it in absolute terms. these people in the brotherhood can relate to mainstream Egyptians, people like you and many examples in the Egyptian Blogsphere (for now, i belive the sphere balance will change ) appear to be isolated islands with no connection whatsoever to your surroundings, your faliure to relate to mainstream egyptians which is key to rehsaping their identity is your biggest problem. and your constant criticism of Islam as a relegion in abosolute terms has probably an effect on western readers, and locals who share your own mindset which are by far an absolute minority. American have elected a neo-con gov. full of relegious fanatics thats the political market at play. same thing in Israel and now guess what? same in Egypt! what we need to push is keeping a deomcratic atmosphere, what people will choose is political market supply demand. and take my word on this, seeing the US and Israel Athiesm and moderate ideas are not in fasion these days..relegion is and Egypt is really in top fashion, whats your problem dudes?
Mr. Mo.
Please visit this blog tommorow. I had this post in mind that I wanted to write for the past 2 days on why the MB winning so many seats may not be such a bad thing at all. And I think you may agree with what I will have to say.
But you are right in one regards, my views are not even close to being that of the majority in Egypt. That's another thing me and you agree on. Whether or not that's a bad thing in a country where the majority still worship Abdel Nasser, well, that's still up for debate. ;)
Stop complaining Mr. SAM, you should be happy that the MB is going to cut people's dicks (with a big sword) if they have consented sex outside the chains of marriage. Who likes sex & enjoying life anyway?
Neocons are not particularly religious, Mohamed. You don't seem to know as much about the domestic situation in the US as you think :)
And why do you only pick out Isreal and the US to talk about?
Something going on with you, I think. I'm not sure what point you are trying to prove. It's good to elect MB candidates, because they don't like the US or Israel? Well, knock yourself out, dude. Have a good life.
God Damnn
How ass backwards is that.. The flippin brrother hood is going to take over Egypt.. Im not comming back then.. Its gonna be hell.. One thing about Egypt it takes one step foward and 25 back..
First of all the brotherhood should not even be allowed to be on anything..Isnt what they do illeagle? Helloooo!!! What a mess
I found it semi-disterbing when a MB representative said "we want to turn Egypt into an Islamic state, we don't want to turn America into an Islamic state"
The good news, westerners won't have to worry. The bad news, we will have to learn to deal with new massive human rights violations (aka Sharia) and realize there is not much we can do as this is the will of the people.

Well, the bad news is that there's no good news, Jordan. You have to learn how an Islamist thinks. When this gentleman said he didn't want to "turn America into an Islamic state" that was by NO means a statement that they didn't mean America any harm.
BTW, Jordan, I'm pretty sure they don't want to turn Israel into an Islamic state either. They want to turn Israel into Palestine.
