Ehhh.....

After Jordan's mindboggeling decision to invite a delegation from Hamas over-especially when compared to its decision to kick their leaders out of Jordan a couple of years ago- it only makes sense that Hamas feels more and more assertive in its demands. For example, they just demanded to be removed from the US' terrorist organizations list: A senior Hamas official called on the United States Thursday to remove the militant Islamic group from Washington's list of terrorist organizations and to open a dialogue without preconditions. Moussa Abu Marzook, deputy head of Hamas' political bureau, told The Associated Press the U.S. should deal with Hamas "as it is, and later there could be a dialogue...but there should be no preconditions."

Ahh, ok, so , like, why exactly do they have to remove your terrorist organization from the terrorist organizations list? Have you stopped being a terrorist organization? No! Have you renounced your old terrorist organization ways? NOPE. Are you, in any way, vowing to change your ways if that happens? Didn't think so. So, like, why again should the US do that? But, hold on, that's not all he said: "Hamas is not the only side that wants peace. ...All the Palestinians want peace because they are the only people whose rights have been encroached upon and who have been expelled from their lands," Abu Marzouk said. Ok, stop the presses, Hamas wants peace? What????????? Peace with who?? And since when??? When did that start??? Am I the only one here who is flabbergasted by the utter B.S. that is getting spouted by this guy? Jeeeez... But the israelis are not falling for it, and they are moving accordingly: Israel will clamp down on Palestinian areas, cutting the West Bank off from Gaza, banning Gaza workers from Israel and halting most funding, in a campaign to weaken the violent Hamas as it assumes power. The tough measures emerged from a security meeting Thursday, and acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is expected to sign off on them Friday. Israel's Cabinet is to approve them Sunday and put them into effect immediately — the day after the new, Hamas-dominated Palestinian parliament takes office.

And of course Hamas is not happy! Mushir al-Masri, an incoming Hamas lawmaker, condemned the Israeli economic threats. "This is collective punishment on our people," he said. "The world should realize that more pressure on the Palestinian people will create more tension and everyone is going to be a loser, including Israel."

Ohh, so now the collective punishment of a group of people via a boycott of economic goods and suspension of diplomatic ties until the government in power does something it doesn't want to do is bad? Go tell that to Denmark. Oh, wait, I doubt they care about you anymore. I think that started after seeing how fast your people wanted to kill their people over a cartoon, especially after their people supported your people for years. Yeah, that may be it! But, to be fair, this comparison is anything but. After all, the people Denmark did not all support and demand and vote for the publishing of the cartoon, and cartoons never really killed anyone- cartoon protesters do (cartoons don't kill people, Cartoon Pro..nevermind). Hamas, on the other hand, killed many many people, and used young people to kill those people and was yet put in power by the palestinain people. So, like, putting pressure on them- or collectively punishing them- to stop Hamas' people killing ways is actually quite valid or at least understandable, you know, because, like, Hamas kills innocent people, even in times of truce. That's why it's a terrorist organization and until it stops doing that, it will remain a terrorist organization, no matter how many palestinians vote it into power.

On the official Hamas website this week:

"My message to the loathed Jews is that there is no god but Allah, we will chase you everywhere! We are a nation that drinks blood, and we know that there is no blood better than the blood of Jews. We will not leave you alone until we have quenched our thirst with your blood, and our children's thirst with your blood. We will not leave until you leave the Muslim countries."

Jewish blood... so fatning yet so good. How much should Israel and other donations give these vampires?

Yeah that’s going to help. Lets raise unemployment and poverty and that will teach em. That'll make people think twice about blowing themselves up. That certainly wont make people rally towards Hamas more. Well hell, its not like we’ve ever tried this before right?

No Karim, we should reward them and accept their choice of choosing a terrorist group to lead them, and continue to fund that terrorist organization.

Let them rally to Hamas ya Kimo, they already did. It will get them nowhere

Melanie do you really just want a PLO v2.0? There are smarter ways. This approach isnt one of them.

The reason why Hamas feels more assertive of its demands can be blamed entirely on the US.

If the current administration had foreseen a strengthening of militant Islamism due to their adamant desire to proliferate 'democracy' and free-elections in the region, then Hamas would not have had the audacity to request a removal from the US' terrorist organizations list.

However, Hamas are diplomatic enough to understand that it is foolish (given their current position of power) to say that 'Israel needs to be wiped off from the map,'as Ahmadinejad of Iran had said.

In essence, this is pure politics at play. They are aware that using euphemisms of peace etc. as Abu Marzouk said will only be the most viable method of gaining concessions (whatever those concessions might be - even if it is through civil 'negotiations' if that possible in their books).

Let's hope that Hamas' new position of power will make it wary that pure and outright verbal aggression will will not take it far. If Hamas feels a sense of responsibility and need to gain legitimacy and wants to be removed from the US' terrorist list then their actions need to speak louder than words.

@Karim, for gaining sympathy towards many Europeans this is not a smart step of Israel to do, true. But towards the Palestinians and towards the Arabs and towards the Iranians Israel has not much of a choice as whatever they will do will not be enough. And the only thing Israel wants is to live in peace and that its citizens, jew, christian, muslim, hindu or whatsoever will not fear for their lifes when getting on to a bus, sitting in a restaurant and whatsoever.

With a neighbour like the Hamas, its hard to stay polite.

Best thing is to stop funds to the palestinian territories altogether till a clear pictures emerges from there.
will Hamas grow up & change their charter & recognise Israel to negotiate with it without their arrogant talk, because they need Israel,Europe & the US whether they admit it or not, or will they continue with their futile mentality that will bring their people more & more suffering??
To give Palestinians funds, it means they are rewarded for their extreme ways of choosing a terrorist organisation, so one has to wait & see how Hamas will get around this one.
There is no way that anyone should give funds to a hamas government without any real & genuine concessions. The choice is clearly in the hands of hamas leaders, they carry the burden now of the palestinians.

Ummm, no.

Hamas, after a sufficient term of posturing (required to maintain their historic position) will capitulate to popular demands.

They've been dying for this chance for years run the place. But despite their glorified rhetoric, the demands of meeting the public's needs on a daily basis will bend the knees of Hamas like no Israeli "atrocity" ever could.

That daily grind...the sewer pipes in the West Bank flooding the newly acquired housing. The calls to the new "Public Works" station demanding they actually create a road around the potholes in the acquired territory???

And the US saying..."Man, I'd LOVE to party with you guys, the head bands and all, shooting the AK47s, hanging with the boys in the hood on the corner burning a few Western Icons. But...those were the good ol' days man. When standing on the corner with your shirt unbuttoned to your waist, showing your manly chest to attract the chicks, was all you had to worry about. An Occasional blowout with the Israelis, or setting up some pre-adolesants or retards to blow themselves up in our name, and the game was fixed.

Now there's rent to pay and the man is breathing down your neck in the shape of "Bitches with babies" hanging 'round "breakin' your balls". And you don't have time to impress the chicks anymore...

The only one impressed with you, is going to be the fat contractor in downtown Jeruslem, who knows if he kisses your ass and makes a little kickback, he'll be making his contribution to the cause of Palestinian/Israeli peace.
